Overview

Our client is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to lead and contribute to complex systems engineering projects across their Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) product line. This role is responsible for overseeing the full systems engineering lifecycle — from design and integration to verification and delivery — ensuring alignment with business goals, project milestones, and customer expectations.

In this position, you will leverage your Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) experience to help our client’s Common Core Systems (CCS) team develop and manage technical objectives across multiple aircraft platforms. This position requires a combination of technical leadership, hands-on systems engineering, and mentoring of junior engineers.

What is Systems Engineering?

Systems engineering is a cross-functional discipline focused on designing, integrating, verifying, and managing complex systems over their lifecycle. It ensures that a system’s needs and requirements are fully understood, and that hardware and software components are integrated and verified to meet those requirements. Systems engineers take a holistic view of the system, considering everything from hardware and software to users, processes, and the operational environment.

In this Role, You Will:

  • Lead the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA products and technologies.
  • Develop and execute systems development and verification plans in line with our client’s engineering processes.
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Business teams to support new pursuits and proposals.
  • Develop system architectures, conduct trade studies, and ensure alignment with customer requirements.
  • Mentor and cross-train other systems engineers, helping to build internal systems engineering expertise.
  • Promote engineering reuse and process improvement within the IMA product line.
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams, ensuring projects meet cost, quality, schedule, and technical objectives.
  • Support project planning, reviews, metrics tracking, forecasting, process adherence, and risk/opportunity management.
  • Ensure timely delivery of system requirements, integration, validation, verification, and resolution of technical issues.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across software, hardware, test, safety, maintainability, reliability, and certification disciplines.
  • Escalate issues requiring broader engineering or business leadership engagement.
  • Make sound decisions to solve complex technical or operational challenges.
  • Bring fresh perspectives to existing challenges and avoid the 'we’ve always done it this way' mindset.
  • Foster a collaborative and fun working environment while mentoring and supporting your colleagues.

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in design & development and/or technical project leadership within an engineering product development environment.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including design, requirements development, and verification.
  • Knowledge of avionics maintainability and testability software.
  • Proven ability and desire to mentor other engineers in technical areas.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available.
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract restrictions.
  • Offer contingent on successful completion of a drug screen (where applicable).
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Boeing 777x and 787x platforms and associated systems.
  • Experience working in Avionics Design Assurance Level A environments.
  • Familiarity with DO-297, ARP 4754A, DO-178, DO-254, DO-330 processes.
  • Strong knowledge of requirements definition, requirements allocation, validation, verification, embedded software, electronic systems, FAA/EASA/NAA certification, and system safety.
  • Effective communicator comfortable interacting with senior leadership both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated leadership in systems development, integration, validation, and verification.

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage starting day one.
  • Permissive time off policy for new employees.
  • Generous 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Tuition reimbursement program.
  • Life insurance and disability coverage.
  • Annual bonus eligibility.
  • And more!
