About the Role

We’re seeking a dynamic Senior Transmission Planning Engineer to join the team and play a key role in designing, analyzing, and ensuring the reliability of the District’s high-voltage power delivery system (a.k.a., the “transmission system” — the superheroes of infrastructure operating at 34,000 volts and beyond). This is your chance to work in a position that combines cutting-edge technical work, regulatory compliance, and leadership opportunities to shape the future of energy.

What You’ll Be Doing

?? System Analysis and Planning:

•Dive into technical and economic studies to plan smart, reliable, and cost-effective upgrades to the District’s transmission system.

•Build a long-term transmission expansion strategy that aligns with other infrastructure projects to keep the power flowing efficiently and affordably.

•Develop operational guides and support system operations to keep things running safely and smoothly.

•Stay sharp with simulation tools, ensuring models and data are spot-on and ready for any scenario.

?? Collaboration and Innovation:

•Partner with neighboring utilities and regional players to create integrated, reliable plans.

•Design and recommend system improvements that enhance reliability and operational efficiency.

•Follow your planning recommendations through engineering and construction phases to ensure results meet expectations.

?? Regulatory Superhero:

•Keep the District on top of compliance with NERC, MRO, and SPP standards.

?? Industry Engagement:

•Join local, subregional, and regional transmission committees to stay ahead of the game and influence the future of transmission planning.

?? Mentorship and Leadership:

•Help develop junior engineers, sharing your wisdom and ensuring the team is ready for anything.

•Represent the department on cross-functional teams and share your insights for impactful decisions.

What You’ll Bring

Must-Haves:

•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).

•PE certification, NERC credential, or equivalent industry certification (or be ready for reciprocity within six months).

•5+ years of engineering experience (or 3 years if you have a Master’s degree).

•Mastery of power modeling software (hello, PSS/E) and programming skills (we see you, Python).

•A valid driver’s license for when adventure calls.

Nice-to-Haves:

•Master’s degree in Engineering or Business.

•Experience with PSCAD, Oracle, SQL, or MS Access.

•Advanced MS Office skills (because Excel wizardry is always impressive).

•A deep knowledge of industry standards like ANSI, IEEE, and NERC.

•Familiarity with the District’s T&D, substation, and generation systems.
