Senior Mechanical Engineer
 
We are on the hunt for a seasoned Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team of one of our top clients in Ann Arbor, Michigan. You will play a pivotal role in the design, development, release, and validation of prismatic lithium-ion battery cells, modules, and packs. These customized applications will be utilized across government, military, aerospace, and other specialized high-performance market segments.

As the mechanical product lead, you'll oversee the entire process from concept design to successful production launch. You'll be instrumental in integrating cells and electronics into battery packs that comply with application-specific requirements.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Oversee mechanical engineering of battery cells, modules, and packs for specific projects.
Lead reviews for requirements, test readiness, and design, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction.
Develop innovative detailed design concepts and direct the creation of models and BOMs.
Conduct thermal, static stress, vibration, and shock analyses using simulation tools.
Analyze part and assembly drawings, tolerances, and GD&T implementation.
Establish criteria for inspections and critical characteristics of components and assemblies.
Author and release test specifications related to battery assemblies.
Assist in supplier evaluation and selection, along with internal measurement activities.
Develop and update DFMEAs and DVPRs; manage prototypes and validations.
Promote continuous improvement by handling issues and preventing risk.
Aid in project proposals, including feasibility, cost, and timing.
Perform diligently to avoid errors and omissions and adhere to instructions and procedures.
Provide managerial support and meet team targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Engage in activities to support team management and follow all safety guidelines.
Be physically present on-site, including weekends and holidays if necessary, and perform other assigned duties.
 
Qualifications:
 
Education & Experience
Bachelor's in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
7+ years of experience in product development and design release to production.
Preferred: 2 years of battery or other electrical device product development.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficiency in CAD software, Simulation/Analysis tools, and GD&T application.
Hands-on experience in designing structural parts using various fabrication techniques.
Experience in DFMEA composition, FEA, thermal, vibration, shock analysis.
Excellent communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel.
Desired: Six Sigma, electrical assembly design, battery system development, Phase-gate process, data analysis (Excel Macro, Python, MATLAB).
