Security and Connectivity Team Lead
This is a Direct Hire role with hybrid remote option. Must be able to come onsite 1-2 days on average every other week. Living within 3-4 hours from Des Moines is desired.
The Security and Connectivity Technical Team Lead is a senior-level, hands-on technical expert who designs, implements, and optimizes cybersecurity solutions across both internal systems and client environments. This role serves as a trusted technical lead on client projects and internal initiatives, helping to protect digital assets, reduce risk, and ensure compliance with industry standards. The Security and Connectivity Technical Team Lead plays a key role in mentoring peers, setting technical standards, and leading by example in complex implementations.
This position offers significant advancement opportunity to a Team Manager role based on performance.
What you will be doing....
• Security Architecture & Engineering - Design and deploy robust cybersecurity architectures for client environments and internal infrastructure, ensuring scalability, performance, and regulatory compliance.
• Client Project Execution- Act as the technical lead on client-facing security engagements, including implementations, assessments, migrations, and system hardening projects.
• Vulnerability Management & Risk Mitigation- Identify, analyze, and resolve vulnerabilities in client and internal systems. Propose and implement mitigation strategies with clear documentation and justification.
• Security Infrastructure Implementation - Configure, deploy, and support security technologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, endpoint protection, SIEM systems, and secure networking components.
• Technical Guidance & Mentorship- Serve as a senior technical resource for team members and clients. Provide informal mentorship and collaborate with project teams to share best practices.
• Compliance & Standards Alignment - Ensure internal and client systems meet requirements for frameworks such as NIST, CIS, ISO 27001, HIPAA, and GDPR, depending on client industry needs.
• Incident Response Support - Contribute to incident response efforts, including forensic analysis, remediation planning, and root cause investigation in client or internal environments.
• Client Communication & Collaboration - Engage directly with clients to understand business needs, explain security solutions, and deliver clear technical recommendations in a professional and approachable manner.
• Research & Solution Evaluation - Stay current with emerging threats and technologies. Evaluate new tools or approaches and recommend adoption where appropriate.
What skills you bring to the table that will be helpful....
• Security Technologies - Deep experience with firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Fortinet), intrusion detection/prevention, SIEM tools, endpoint protection, and VPN solutions.
• Network Security - Strong foundation in Cisco networking (routing, switching, ACLs, NAT, VPN, VLANs) and secure network architecture.
• Security Standards & Frameworks - Working knowledge of NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Benchmarks, and industry-specific compliance regulations.
• Client-Facing Communication - Ability to communicate clearly with clients of varying technical backgrounds, offering guidance, recommendations, and support.
• Cloud & Hybrid Experience - Hands-on knowledge of securing cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or others) in conjunction with traditional infrastructure.
• Analytical Thinking - Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex environments and implement effective solutions.
• Team Collaboration - Works well in cross-functional teams; leads initiatives through technical influence rather than authority.
Minimum Qualifications you have....
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• 5–8 years of hands-on IT security experience, with at least 2 years in a client-facing or consulting role.
• CISSP certification or commitment to obtain within 6–12 months.
• Cisco certifications such as CCNA Security or CCNP Security preferred.
• Familiarity with professional services and managed services delivery models.
• Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell) is a plus
