Safety Director
Job Overview: Our transportation client located in the Sioux Falls, SD area is seeking to add a new Director of Safety to their team. The Director of Safety?is responsible for recommending, developing, implementing, and managing processes, programs and initiatives related to safety, compliance, and training. To be successful in the role of Director of Safety, you must be able to supervise, manage, and motivate staff.
This is a direct hire position. This position reports to the President.
What you will be doing as a Director of Safety
- Ensure programs are in place to meet or exceed all applicable rules, laws and regulations
- Work with insurance carriers, brokers/agents, loss prevention staff, adjusters, underwriters, and account managers
- Participate in industry associations and events related to safety, compliance, and training
- Ensure OSHA compliance by completing periodic audits for the workplace
- Provide management reporting for the following: accidents per million miles; accidents by type and cost; accidents by other demographic categories, state, day of week
- Responsible for performance reviews for all department employees
- Make recommendations regarding disciplinary actions
- Conduct safety audits and regular safety training sessions which includes direct necessary remedial training programs
- Ensure the completion of required training for all departments per policy/regulations
- Involved in content preparation for Quarterly Driver Safety Meetings
- Advise recruiting department, as needed, with driver qualifications
- Monitor CSA performance and Roadside Inspection performance
- Oversee deductible expense and subrogation recovery
Skills you ideally bring to the table as a Director of Safety
- Bachelor's degree and related experience
- Writing and reporting skills, scheduling, leadership, time management, and effective verbal communication skills
- Ability to connect with drivers and team members
- Considerate and professional behavior in all communication
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires multi-tasking ability
- Ability to maintain calm and positive thinking
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
