Process Control Engineer – Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) & Control Systems
About the Role:
We are seeking a Process Control Engineer to support and maintain our Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) program and refinery control systems (DCS & PLC). You will work with process control teams, engineers, technicians, and operators to ensure safe and reliable refinery operations. This role includes troubleshooting, compliance, cybersecurity assessments, and participating in an on-call rotation for after-hours support. Key Responsibilities:
SIS Program Support:
- Assist in project design reviews, commissioning, and testing
- Develop and execute automated logic testing
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Loop Acceptance Tests (LATs)
- Maintain compliance data records and conduct SIS audits
- Train staff on SIS interlocks, functionality, and cause/effect diagrams
Control System Maintenance:
- Troubleshoot and repair PLC/DCS equipment (cards, CPUs, power supplies, etc.)
- Diagnose communication issues between PLC/DCS systems
- Perform minor logic/HMI modifications
- Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA)
- Assist with hardware upgrades and networking of devices (e.g., SIS AMS)
- Participate in annual maintenance turnarounds and outages
- Support weekly 24/7 on-call rotation
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications):
✔ Experience troubleshooting PLC code, ladder logic, and electrical wiring diagrams
✔ Refinery experience with field inspections and instrumentation
✔ Knowledge of pressure, temperature, level, flow, valves, and vibration instruments
✔ Hands-on experience with Triconex, Allen Bradley, GE, or Siemens PLCs
✔ Understanding of ISA/IEC 61511 SIS standards
✔ Valid U.S. driver’s license
✔ Ability to meet physical requirements (lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, wearing PPE)
Preferred Qualifications:
✅ TUV SIS or ISA/IEC 61511 certification
✅ Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM)
✅ Hands-on experience with DeltaV DCS
✅ 5+ years in a refinery or instrumentation role
✅ Strong cybersecurity awareness in process control environments
Compensation & Work Conditions:
Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 per year
Potential for 20% travel (FATs, LATs, training, site support)
Extended work hours during maintenance outages
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
