Our client is seeking a Systems Engineering Staff Engineer to serve as a Systems Lead for networking products. This position is accountable for both functional and business objectives, with a focus on delivering technical leadership across multiple aircraft platforms. The ideal candidate will leverage their experience with Ethernet-based networking technologies to define and manage technical goals across a range of programs.

Systems engineering at our client is a cross-functional discipline that balances customer needs with technical and business objectives. This role involves managing the entire system lifecycle — from identifying requirements to design, validation, and delivery — ensuring the final product meets quality, safety, and performance standards. The Systems Engineering Staff Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving these processes forward, working both autonomously and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee systems engineering activities for networking products and the common computing platform.
  • Manage the full systems engineering lifecycle, ensuring compliance with internal processes and industry standards.
  • Develop and execute system development and verification plans for networking and computing platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineering, sales, marketing, and business leaders to support new business pursuits.
  • Conduct architectural design and trade studies to align products with customer requirements.
  • Mentor and cross-train Systems Engineers on systems engineering processes and best practices.
  • Promote engineering reuse strategies across the networking product line.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and guidance to project teams, ensuring delivery on safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Support project planning, design reviews, metrics tracking, and risk and opportunity management.
  • Ensure timely delivery of system requirements, system integration, and effective issue resolution.
  • Facilitate the successful launch of new projects by ensuring they align with product roadmaps and engineering processes.
  • Foster collaboration across software, hardware, test, safety, reliability, maintainability, and certification teams.
  • Proactively escalate issues requiring senior engineering or business leadership support.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product design & development and/or technical project leadership within an engineering environment.
  • Strong background in avionics systems engineering processes, including ARP4754A and ARP4761.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required. Employment is contingent upon verification of citizenship status.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Avionics Design Assurance Level A or B environments.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as DO-297, DO-178, DO-254, and DO-330.
  • Expertise with networking products and Network Interoperability Specifications.
  • Knowledge of key interfaces including but not limited to Ethernet, TSN Ethernet, analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825.
  • Experience with full lifecycle engineering processes, including requirements definition, allocation, validation, and verification, as well as system integration and certification (FAA, EASA, or other regulatory agencies).
  • Strong background in system safety engineering.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership both within and outside the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding teams through system development, integration, validation, and verification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and project management skills.
