JOB TITLE: Material Handler with Shag Responsibilities

REPORTS TO: Area Leader, Logistics


Summary of Responsibilities

Support manufacturing through shipping and receiving of products, raw materials, material handling, scrap removal, and organizing production, storage, and outside areas.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Flexible to work in plant when no shagging/shuttling is needed
  • Operate fork lift vehicles in safe and efficient manner
  • Operate overhead cranes in safe and efficient manner, using proper rigging and lifting techniques
  • Safely operate shag truck to efficiently convey material between facilities
  • Move trailers as required by production needs to/from truck staging areas to facilitate material movement
  • Follow all OSHA and Company policies for the safe practice of loading and unloading trucks
  • Must be able to back 53’ trailers into indoor and up to outdoor docks
  • Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example
  • Report all incidents, accidents, near misses and spills as they occur
  • Keep all material handling equipment inspected – including daily pre-use inspections, maintained, fueled and in safe working condition
  • Move containers of completed goods, parts, components, scrap, containers of in process parts, metal coils and other goods, physically and electronically
  • Insure proper set up and correct amounts and part numbers
  • Ensure dumpsters, baskets, racks and boxes are always available for the Production Team
  • Organize warehouse and coils to maintain First-In-First-Out System, to prevent damage, deterioration and loss
  • Insure proper storage placement of raw material
  • Report material shortages to Area Leads
  • Dump all scrap and trash bins at end of shift
  • Keep accurate records
  • Insure accurate signature, date and trailer number on bills of lading
  • Complete correspondence, forms, tags and reports as required
  • Obtain signature on all paperwork required for shipping and receiving of goods
  • Conduct shift carry over with other drivers
  • Attain safety, quality and productivity goals


Education / Experience and Required Training

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Possess and maintain valid Commercial Drivers License with tractor-trailer and air brake endorsement
  • Possess and maintain valid Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) medical certification
  • Possess valid Road Test Certification or be able to pass a tractor-trailer road and yard test
  • Must have minimum of one year over the road tractor-trailer experience
  • Must not have had major chargeable accident in past three years
  • Must not have had more than one moving violation in past three years
  • Must pass D.O.T. pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screen or have evidence of physical and drug/alcohol screen taken within past six months
  • Forklift
  • Crane, CMS, Scan Guns, LO/TO Awareness
