Position: Process Development Engineer (Muscatine, IA) 

Job Overview: The Process Development Engineer will design, implement, and manage process and automation improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in steel plate manufacturing. This role combines software engineering, process control, and project management to drive innovation and optimize production performance.

 

This is a direct-hire role.

What you will be doing as a Process Development Engineer…
• Analyze and improve manufacturing processes through automation and control system enhancements.
• Design, develop, and manage process and modeling projects to improve yield, quality, and cost.
• Maintain and optimize precision closed-loop industrial control models.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for process control systems, including reheat furnace, Steckel mill, and related equipment.
• Plan and manage projects involving the design, modification, and installation of facility equipment.
• Establish technical standards for control system implementation, testing, and quality assurance.
• Support Level 2 process control systems and related software when required.

Skills you ideally bring to the table as a Process Development Engineer…
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field.
• Experience:
o 5+ years programming industrial process control systems.
o Strong understanding of control layers, steel plate manufacturing processes, and automation systems.
o Proficiency in Fortran, C, C++, C#, or VB.NET.
o Experience with PLC systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley) and real-time communications.
o Knowledge of MS SQL or Oracle databases preferred.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
