Job Description
Fixed Equipment Engineer
Location: Rosemount, MN
Job Overview: As a Fixed Equipment Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the mechanical integrity of critical assets at a large-scale refinery. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including inspectors, maintenance staff, and operations, to troubleshoot technical issues, ensure compliance with industry standards, and optimize equipment lifecycle management. Your primary responsibilities will include the ownership of special emphasis programs, root cause failure analysis, and the development of solutions to enhance safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a technical resource ensuring alignment with environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) standards and risk management.
- Lead and manage one or more Mechanical Integrity programs, focusing on fixed equipment assets such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, and fired heaters.
- Provide hands-on technical troubleshooting and diagnostics to resolve equipment-related issues.
- Lead or participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and implement recommendations to prevent future failures.
- Collaborate with multiple teams, including Business, Maintenance, Operations, and Turnaround teams, to provide technical expertise and lifecycle support.
- Mentor and support early-career engineers, fostering technical growth and development within the team.
- Stay current with new technologies and methods that can be applied to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Provide turnaround support, including participation in critical maintenance activities which may include working nights, weekends, or holidays when required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent; relevant inspection experience is also acceptable.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a refinery, chemical plant, or similar industry with a focus on fixed equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of asset types such as pressure vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers, and fired heaters.
- Familiarity with codes and standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, API 570, 571, and ASME B31 piping codes.
- Expertise in diagnosing and addressing corrosion, damage mechanisms, and developing appropriate inspection plans.
- Proficiency in the design and evaluation of bolted joint connections, tank design, and repairs.
- Hands-on experience with software-based analytics (fitness for service, pipe stress analysis, etc.).
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated capability to mentor junior engineers.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance technical, operational, and business considerations.
- Experience with computer-based tools to conduct equipment diagnostics and lifecycle analysis.
- Familiarity with innovative technologies and best practices in asset management to drive continuous improvement
