As Director of Claims, you will provide strategic leadership across multiple claim lines, oversee external partners, and guide a growing team through operational redesign and leadership succession. You will collaborate closely with Legal, Risk, and executive leadership to enhance claim outcomes, reduce organizational exposure, and build a high-performing, best-in-class claims function.
Key Responsibilities
Lead enterprise claims operations across auto liability, general liability, cargo, workers’ compensation, and physical damage
Manage the financial performance of claims, including reserves, settlements, recoveries, and long-term cost strategies
Oversee third-party administrators, outside counsel, and vendors managing complex and litigated claims
Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing claims leadership team with a strong focus on succession planning
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices
Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Safety, Operations, Finance, and HR to mitigate risk and improve outcomes
Drive operational efficiency through enhanced reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision-making
Support litigation strategy, including mediations and trials as needed
Lead the continued evolution of claims operations during a planned leadership transition
Qualifications
Experience leading multi-line claims operations
Proven success managing third-party administrators and external legal partners
Strong knowledge of claims compliance, litigation processes, and risk management principles
Demonstrated leadership experience across managers, supervisors, and professional staff
Ability to work onsite in the Cedar Rapids, IA area
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Background in transportation, insurance, construction, hospitality, or similarly claims-intensive industries
Strong financial reporting and analytics experience related to claims and risk exposure
Legal background or extensive experience partnering closely with legal teams
