Cost Accountant
Job Overview: Our Cedar Rapids client in the manufacturing industry is seeking to add a new Cost Accountant to their team. The Cost Accountant will support the Controller and President by providing critical financial insights and reports, while also collaborating with the Corporate Controller and CFO. This role is responsible for planning, gathering, and analyzing financial data across the company’s business activities, and direct/coordinate the company’s accounting functions, including financial analysis, job costing, cash management, inventory management, and accounts receivable/payable.
This is a Contract To Hire role.
What you will be doing as a Cost Accountant…
- Prepare key financial reports, including balance sheets, P&L statements, weekly/monthly backlog reports, Gross Profit, Weekly Job Cost Summary, Labor reports, and other relevant financial documents.
- Manage weekly, monthly, and year-end financial reporting processes, ensuring accurate journal entries, account reconciliations, and data integration into the corporate financial database.
- Develop and maintain KPIs, performance metrics, and conduct trend analysis on business performance.
- Analyze and maintain accurate inventory valuations and general ledger entries, including updates to standard costs for labor, materials, and overhead.
- Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, and Purchasing Managers to oversee and direct annual physical inventory.
- Reconcile and maintain work-in-progress inventory and fixed assets.
- Review and approve commission and royalty payments to dealers and payees according to contractual terms.
- Review and approve payables and expense reports, ensuring appropriate backup documentation.
- Process daily AR invoices, registers, and submit corporate requirements to the corporate receivables department.
- Coordinate annual inventory processes, including periodic cycle counts and review of overages/shortages with operations and warehouse teams.
- Gain proficiency in the AP process and become familiar with GL accounts to ensure smooth workflow.
Skills you ideally bring to the table as a Cost Accountant…
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 5 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in an OEM manufacturing environment
- Operationally focused, with a strong understanding of financial principles in a corporate setting
- Must be detail-oriented with the ability to work cross-functionally among teams, drive financial accuracy, and provide insights that will support the company's growth and operational excellence
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills, with excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with proficiency in Word and PowerPoint
