Position: Direct Hire - Assistant Buyer (this role is 100% onsite)

Location: Baytown, Texas

The Assistant Buyer/Expeditor will be responsible for supporting the procurement process by sourcing materials and equipment, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery of goods. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement within a manufacturing environment, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with various departments to resolve issues.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Buyer

  • Procure materials, equipment, repair parts, and MRO items such as gaskets, valves, fittings, and electrical components.
  • Manage the RFQ (Request for Quotation) process to obtain competitive pricing and terms.
  • Expedite open purchase orders to ensure timely delivery of goods and materials.
  • Source new and existing materials and equipment from suppliers.
  • Work closely with Accounts Payable to reconcile supplier invoice discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of procurement activities and vendor communications.
  • Utilize MRP/ERP systems to manage procurement processes and inventory control.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors to manage expectations and resolve issues.
  • Perform data entry and vendor management tasks with a high level of accuracy.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure procurement needs are met and align with production schedules.

Requirements for the Assistant Buyer:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a procurement or procurement support role within a manufacturing facility, industrial distributor, or industrial contractor.
  • Experience in procuring materials, equipment, repair parts, and MRO items.
  • Familiarity with the RFQ process and expediting open purchase orders.
  • Ability to source materials and equipment efficiently.
  • Experience in working with Accounts Payable to reconcile supplier invoice discrepancies.
  • At least 2 years of experience with an MRP/ERP system.
  • High School Diploma or GED certificate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in vendor management and data entry.
