Position: Senior Mechanical Designer
Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Senior Mechanical Designer to provide essential support in maintaining uninterrupted product flow to fulfill customer requirements. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our client's products are designed for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide critical support for line-down situations to ensure continuous product delivery.
- Oversee the design and development of tools and fixtures, ensuring they are optimized for manufacturing and aligned with cost projections and manufacturability considerations.
- Lead the design process for manufacturing, offering expert advice to ensure parts are designed with manufacturability in mind.
- Drive process improvements across the organization by collaborating with various teams and applying Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Create intricate tooling, fixtures, and assemblies to enhance manufacturing efficiency and output.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes for cost-effectiveness, deciding between in-house manufacturing and outsourcing.
- Participate in the maintenance of our clients preventative maintenance program for tooling.
- Oversee the assessment and conversion of on-market tooling to steel, managing the lifecycle of approved projects from initiation to completion.
Project Management:
- Facilitate communication within and between departments regarding the design and development of tooling for new and existing products and process improvement initiatives.
- Produce and maintain quality documentation, such as SOPs and work instructions, and manage project documentation like qualification protocols and design history files.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure adherence to engineering and company-wide processes.
- Execute manufacturing responsibilities within the ISO 13485 regulated quality system.
Sourcing:
- Support the validation and transfer of clients processes to suppliers that meet our standards for quality, cost, and reliability.
- Assist in establishing product and process specifications, including the selection of materials, components, and manufacturing systems.
Qualifications:
- Proven design and documentation skills with a strong emphasis on materials management and manufacturing.
- Exceptional problem-solving, communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with CAD and PDM tools like PTC Creo Parametric and PTC Windchill.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, and mechanical assembly.
- Availability for overtime as required and regular, predictable attendance.
Education and Experience:
- An Associates degree with 5-8 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in injection molding and steel tool design and development.
- Certifications in Plastics Technology and Engineering or related fields are preferred, along with familiarity with GD&T, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, FDA, and MDR regulations.
